This season, grey is the new black. Yet only a few token pieces of grey were displayed at the Lady Dutch’s (LD) Fall Collection, which was showcased on October 22nd at Toronto’s Ultra Super Club on Queen Street. Unlike many other designer ‘O7 fall collections that have gone ultra grey, the Lady Dutch line had hues suited for every taste. LD added some light on their fashions by making some pieces cream-colored or white to go along with grey plaid mini skirts or brown tweed pants. One outfit, which may have been inspired by menswear, had a white button-down top which brightened up a black vest, black tights and flat black rain boots. However, despite the bright suggestions, a dark and mysterious dominatrix theme still lingered in some of the pieces of the collection.
From retro dresses, like Kesha’s, to striped dresses with romantic-lace-finished tank tops, worn in skinny jeans, Lady Dutch is simply, easy to wear funky-street fashion. The clothes can be mix-matched to suit your own personal style with selections inspired by different eras. There was an 80′s twist to many of the pieces, that were seen as baggy metallic tops of purple and silver hues were paired with dark spandex leggings or skinny jeans worn with v-toe stilettos. And let’s not forget the models! They had free-flowing hair-dos, either straight or curled; though curls were mostly messy and frizz was quite apparent! However, when wearing Lady Dutch, all imperfection seem nothing short of perfect!
